Some of you may not know this, but the “I love NY” slogan and logo was originally developed to promote tourism in New York State, not just NYC. Created by graphic artist Milton Glaser, it was first used in 1977. The use of a heart as a symbol for the word “love” has been widely imitated since then. As a designer, I love the simplicity of the “I love NY” logo and I truly do love NY!!
A couple of years back, a firm was hired to run a new campaign to promote more tourism for the entire state. They achieved this by adding icon additions to compliment the already famous logo. I don’t really care (or see the need) for the added icons…but everyone is free to their own opinion.
