There are times in a designer's life when friends and family will occasionally ask for your assistance...be it a logo for the cub scout fund raising luncheon or for their start-up business, it's inevitable, so don't try to fight it.
I am always eager to lend my talents (even with no pay) because it's more experience and I love to design. Plus, if you are just starting out, or want to become a designer, doing "free" work is a good way to build your portfolio, something all employers will want to see before hiring you for a job.
This logo was created for one of my friend's Dad's girlfriend, Kim. She started creating pottery in her spare time and on weekends as a way to unwind from her high-stress job as an ER nurse. After some time she became quite well and others encouraged her to start selling her creations at local art shows. She was a huge success and decided to build a brand for herself....that's where I stepped in and created her a logo, stationary and business cards (to be posted later). The most important thing to remember is to have fun, otherwise you need to find another passion.
